This past weekend, I attended the National Cartoonist Society’s Southeast Chapter meeting in Asheville, NC.  We got to hear from a lot of great cartoonists.  The speakers were:

-Duane Powell and Cullem Rogers on editorial cartooning
-Andy Smith on comic books
-Michael Jantze on comic strip animation
-Duck Edwing on his work with MAD Magazine
-MAD magazine greats Jack Davis and Nick Meglin

Jack Davis treated us all to a live drawing session on the overhead screen, which you can see here:

There was also a comic book show going on at the same hotel as the meeting, and I picked up a couple of nice golden age “funny books.”  A 1946 issue of Blondie and a 1959 issue of Woody Woodpecker.
